“Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.” (Zechariah 9:9)
‘See, your king comes to you’
Easter is approaching fast and we have reached Palm Sunday. I wonder how many Sunday clubs will be acting this out? Has anyone sourced a real donkey?! What Health and Safety and Insurance hoops have you had to leap through? Perhaps a video clip would be safer. We are all familiar with the scene though and can readily imagine the noise and the excitement. We are likely all familiar too with the startling differences between King Jesus and the earthly, secular kings and emperors. Some who lined the streets of Jerusalem that day might have preferred a warrior king coming to sweep away the might of Rome. Some might have preferred a lunatic, a harmless madman and some entertainment for the day. Some might have preferred a paper tiger who would not upset the status quo.
‘See, your king comes to you’
A King of mercy not of might, with a Kingdom which values gentleness above greatness.
A King of peace not of power, with a Kingdom open to the meek before the mighty.
A King of sacrifice not of supremacy, with a Kingdom whose emblem is a cross not a crown.
Let’s welcome King Jesus and His Kingdom
