SBC students are made up of people with a range of life experiences and vocational aspirations. The shared interest of SBC students is the desire to develop Christian faith and practice in a supportive learning environment.

Some students choose to do individual modules for personal interest and development. Others take modules or full programmes to acquire training and Higher Education qualifications in order to pursue vocational aspirations in Christian ministry and mission. Many current Scottish Baptist ministers have studied either full time or part time at the Scottish Baptist College.

Some students come to SBC straight from school and others later after pursuing other studies or careers. Modular and part time options mean that some continue to work in Church activity or in other work while developing their theological education.

Some recent part time and modular SBC students include members of Church staff teams refreshing or enhancing their learning, retired people involved in local church leadership, and those working towards a full degree and career change.

A recent development involves people taking modules while engaged in Church or agency work as part of a work ‘sabbatical break’ or gap year ‘internship’. This enables students not only to apply learning to context and context to learning but means that they gain credited learning while doing so.

The range of student ages, backgrounds, experience, and aspirations contributes to the rich dynamic of the supportive communal life of Scottish Baptist College.

Full time students from SBC have gone on to be Baptist ministers, youth ministers, chaplains, and religious education teachers. Previous part time and modular students continue to engage in a wide range of Christian service areas.
