Back in April 2018 we had the privilege of inviting Dr. Helen Paynter to Scotland as we hosted the Whitley Lecture in partnership with the Baptist Union of Scotland and Kirkintilloch Baptist Church. For those that were there they heard a very thought-provoking lecture entitled Dead and Buried? Attending to the Voice of the Victim in the Old Testament and Today. Through the lecture Dr Paynter looked at some of the more difficult texts in the Old Testament and drew out some lessons for us today in light of some contemporary issues.
As the Whitley Lecture tour is now coming to a close we’re pleased to be able to now release the video recording of the lecture (our thanks to those at Kirkintilloch Baptist who facilitated the recording). As well as listening to the lecture we can recommend that you also purchase a copy of the accompanying book produced by Helen alongside the lectures. Together they make a valuable resource packed full of great scholarship and a helpful way to engage some lively issues.
We hope to build on the success of 2018’s Whitley Lecture and host another public lecture in 2019 – so do keep a look out for that information in the coming months and join us for another stimulating afternoon.
