“…they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.” (Psalm 107:6,13,19,28)
Four groups of troubled and distresses people are described in Psalm 107. The pain of some is due to circumstance and chance, for others it is entirely self-inflicted. For all of them the solution is the same: “they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them.” That deliverance is never conditional on promises they make or proof of their prior repentance or a claim on mercies earned. It is never delayed but always timely. It is never partial or incomplete. It doesn’t depend on polished prayers or eloquence or persuasiveness from us. It comes with neither invoice nor lecture. So, in whatever trouble we find ourselves today we can cry out and be confident of His deliverance. Not because we have earned an answer, but because God has already revealed himself in this psalm to be the One who hears – and delivers.
