Spiritual care is at the heart of chaplaincy and seeks to listen and offer support to people of all faiths and none. This module will explore the meaning of spiritual care as it relates to religious care in its similarities and differences.
Beginning at the end of January 2025, a revamped Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care explores the the basic skills of pastoral care such as listening skills and topics such as grief and mental health. The module develops these practices and looks at them in the context of chaplaincy in comparison to and alongside, the concept of spiritual care. Over the course of 12 classes foundational theory and practice will be developed, serving as an excellent introduction to chaplaincy in theory and practice.
The future shape and development of chaplaincy will also be considered, including the challenges and opportunities this may involve.
The class runs online via Zoom using discussion and teaching and interactive learning alongside the class tutor and fellow students. Classes run on Thursday evenings between 7:15pm and 9:30pm allowing maximum flexibility to fit study around other commitments. The module is equivalent to 20 credits at Level 7 in the SQCF framework (1st year University) and is validated by the University of the West of Scotland. Fees are £550 which includes access to the Digital Theological Library allowing access to all resources from wherever you are based as well as access to Aula, the Virtual Learning Environment, which enhances distance learning.
