“Then the angel of God, who had been travelling in front of Israel’s army, withdrew and went behind them. The pillar of cloud also moved from in front and stood behind them, coming between the armies of Egypt and Israel. Throughout the night the cloud brought darkness to the one side and light to the other; so neither went near the other all night long.” (Exodus 14:19-20)

Exodus 14 describes the moment Israel has finally left slavery in Egypt but finds itself trapped between Pharaoh’s pursuing army and the sea. Behind them a violent, vengeful army is about to descend on them and ahead lies an impassable barrier.

But God….

But God moved an angel between Israel and the enemy at their back.

But God sent a powerful wind that parted the sea at their face.

He is always the transformative factor.

He is always the decisive factor.

He is always the Deliverer.

There are moments when we stand paralysed between some malignant, destructive force from behind and some immovable obstacle ahead.

But God…

He is still the transformative factor.

He is still the decisive factor.

He is still the Deliverer.
