“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:16-18
At the recent Ministers’ Conference in St. Andrews our speaker shared insights from 2 Corinthians. As he spoke on 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 I was reminded of one of my favourite themes: the Divine Exchange. Our God exchanges our outward ruin with His inward renewal (v.16), exchanges our momentary griefs with His eternal glories (v.17), and exchanges our troubles today with His triumphs tomorrow (v.18). This brought to mind so many other aspects of the Divine Exchange such as the exchange of the old covenant with the new (Heb.8:6-13), enmity with friendship (Rom.5:9-11), death with life (Eph.2:4 and Col.2:13), the perishable with the imperishable (1 Cor.15:44), and the old self with the new self (Eph.4:24). How many more can you find?! Take some time today to explore the Scriptures and rejoice in the Divine Exchange.
