“Lord, You have been our dwelling-place throughout all generations. Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting You are God.”
Psalm 90:1-2

There have been some striking pictures from the International Space Station of the hurricanes and tropical storms currently battering the Caribbean. From space the sheer scale of these storms is apparent. The pictures from ground level also show the sheer destructive power of these storms too. Yet from above it also becomes possible to see the clear, quiet, still-point at the centre that the storms swirl around. These images have reminded me of Psalm 90. The psalm does not shy away from God’s immense power and destructive capability, and from the fragility of human existence in the face of His wrath, and from the chaos that sometimes surrounds us. Yet the defining and abiding image I see in this psalm comes in those opening lines. The God who is the clear, quiet, still-point at the centre of the storms. He has always been – and will always be – our safe place. Through every generation, and through every storm, He holds us in peace.

May you find your refuge in Him.
