Throughout the autumn, many senior school pupils will be encouraged to think about their plans for next academic year. Although the College is not part of the UCAS system, we want to make sure that school leavers know that the College is a viable option for studying at university.

The Scottish Baptist College offers a standard 4 year, degree-level programme validated by the University of the West of Scotland (UWS). We offer all modules online / hybrid as well as on-campus at the UWS Paisley campus so it means you can study in a standard university system but within a Christian faith-based learning environment.

We recognise the value of investing in young people and supporting them to discern and pursue their call by training in Christian theology, to serve and witness to the Kingdom of God through their lives and vocation. We hope that you share this vision with us and will encourage the conversation with young people who express an interest in ministry broadly defined. We’re looking to connect with those interested in youthwork, chaplaincy, church ministry, religious education, caring professions, and much more beside all of which benefits from a degree in theology as a foundation.

And for those who aren’t 100% sure, you can exit the degree programme after a year with a Certificate in Theology and covers some of the foundational skills or ministry. It could be that a gap year spent studying theology helps to discern the next step while gaining a recognizable qualification.

If you share this vision with us could you help us with some or all of the following:

  1. Share details of the upcoming Taster Day in your church newsletter / announcements. You can download a PowerPoint slide here and there is a paragraph of text below that can be used for an announcement or in a newsletter. You can use the following graphic as an image if needed.
  2. Share our social media posts – this Facebook post gives all the details; as does this Tweet.
  3. Put young people directly in contact with the College. Graham Meiklejohn is happy to chat with anyone looking into studies and help them discern a good way ahead. Contact him by email on graham.meiklejohn@uws.ac.uk
  4. Pray for the College and for prospective students considering ministry training. We trust in God to call people to ministry and by His Spirit to move them to action.

Of course, the Taster Day is not limited to school leavers and we would be more than happy to hear from anyone who is prompted to consider training for ministry. The timing of the taster day is to suit school leavers who often have the chance to visit universities at this time of year, but that doesn’t mean it is exclusively for school leavers!
