SUMMARY:SBC Seminar - Final Year Dissertation Presentations
DESCRIPTION:Join us at SBC for a College Community Seminars. On Thursday 14th February between 1:30pm (for a 1:45pm start) and 3:00pm\, we’ll be holding an annual student-led seminar where our final year students will be presenting their dissertation research. This is an opportunity for the students to present their work\, gain some feedback\, and hone their ideas. The dissertation is a major piece of work for the Undergrads and this is a good way to mark the effort that goes into completing this assignment. \nThis year we have topics covering (broadly) the atonement in discussion with John Piper and NT Wright; children and the sacraments; and the role of the teacher in models of APEST ministry. \nWe’re pleased to offer this seminar for those with an interest in the topics and to those who wish to support and encourage the students! These seminars are open to alumni\, friends\, and supporters of the College\, as well as the wider public who feel they would benefit from engaging with the topic. We do hope you’ll join us. \nFor further information please contact Graham Meiklejohn on graham.meiklejohn@uws.ac.uk

SUMMARY:The Dangers of Optimism: Nietzsche and the ‘High Noontide’ with Prof. Sandy Stoddart
DESCRIPTION:Join us at SBC for a College Community Seminars. On Wednesday 21st November between 1:30pm and 3:00pm\, we’ll be joined by UWS’s Professor Alexander (Sandy) Stoddart who will be sharing with us on the topic of “The Dangers of Optimism: Nietzsche and the ‘High Noontide’.” We are absolutely thrilled to have Sandy visit the College most importantly as a friend\, but also a colleague\, and a world-renowned artist. \n“Alexander Stoddart is a Scottish sculptor\, born in Edinburgh. Mr. Stoddart has been making sculpture and statuary in Paisley\, Scotland\, for over 20 years.  He attended Glasgow School of Art from 1976-1980 and afterwards entered post-graduated studies at Glasgow University from 1980-1983. \nMr. Stoddart has written extensively on the philosophy of aesthetics and published many articles. He had broadcast regularly on radio and television and increased his journalistic work.” (Adapted from: www.intbau.org/members/alexander-stoddart/) \nAlexander Stoddart is also Sculptor in Ordinary to Her Majesty The Queen in Scotland and to give you a flavour of what to expect (if anything can be “expected” with Sandy!)\, in an interview for the Scotsman he talks of “dipping into the New Testament every day” and thinks “the Broons should be forced down the throat of every Scottish child.” (Both very good practices in my opinion). Read the extended interview here:\nwww.scotsman.com/lifestyle/culture/art/sculptor-sandy-stoddart-on-his-art-1-3256577 \nWe’re pleased and excited to have Professor Stoddart with us again following his fascinating seminar last academic year (on Van Gogh and religion). These seminars are open to alumni\, friends\, and supporters of the College\, as well as the wider public who feel they would benefit from engaging with the topic. We do hope you’ll join us. \nFor further information please contact Graham Meiklejohn on graham.meiklejohn@uws.ac.uk
