Join us at SBC for our regular College Community Seminars as a specialist in the field gives a theological insight into their specific area of interest. On Tuesday March 15th (1:30-3:00pm) Dr Stuart Reid will be presenting on ‘Perspectives on the relationship between science and religion (including a summary of physics and astronomy innovation at UWS over the past 100 years)’.

Stuart is a Reader and Royal Society Industry Fellow working in the Institute of Thin Films, Sensors and Imaging in the School of Engineering and Computing at UWS.  He leads a research team of staff and students who are investigating: (1) novel laser mirror coatings for use in future gravitational waves observatories (helping to open a new “window” to observe some of the most exotic events in the Universe, such as black holes colliding), (2) “nanokicking” stem cells for controlling differentiation (e.g. growing autologous bone graft from a patient’s own stem cells), and (3) breath analysis for patient safety during anaesthetic procedures in collaboration with local company, Gas Sensing Solution Ltd.  Stuart is also a member of St Ninians Community Church in Stirling, and is involved in both the worship leading and teaching.
